The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) program to reimburse for the purchase of a casket or urn used to inter a deceased, eligible, Unclaimed Veteran in a VA National Cemetery, is in place. The program allows for the reimbursement to any individual or entity, has standards for the casket or urn purchased, and by law requires that the Veteran died on or after January 10, 2014.
For eligible Veterans who died on or after January 10, 2014 and were interred in a VA national cemetery prior to May 13, 2015 there are special instructions for applying for the reimbursement.

Burial in a national cemetery is open to all members of the armed forces, and Veterans who have met minimum active duty service requirements, and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. Their spouse, widow, or widower, minor children, and, under certain conditions, unmarried adult children with disabilities, may also be eligible for burial. Eligible spouses and children may be buried even if they predecease the Veteran. Members of the reserve components of the armed forces who die while on active duty or who die while on training duty, or were eligible for retired pay, may also be eligible for burial.

Laquita McCulloch, 85, of Desloge, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis. She was born January 2, 1933 in Bee Branch, AR, to the late H.H. and Glenna (Halbrook) Guiling. Laquita graduated from Diehlstadt High School and continued her education at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro with a degree in teaching. She later graduated with her Master's degree in Library Science at Ole Miss and retired after 31 years with the majority of her career as a Librarian at North County High School. Laquita was a member of the Flat River Church of Christ and served on the Desloge Library Board for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, LaDora Quertermous and brother, Forrest Guiling.
Laquita is survived by her sons, John McCulloch, Jr. of Jefferson City and fiancé Malinda Christiansen, and Steve McCulloch of Aurora; grandchildren, Shawn McCulloch, Casey (Aaron) Wilson, Lauren Christiansen McCulloch, Cassie (Adam) Baker, Josh McCulloch, Lane McCulloch; great-grandchildren, Laney and Race McCulloch, Jude, Samuel, and Elijah Wilson, Brennen and Collins Baker; sister, Shelby Hurley; several nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends, also survive.
Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, February 23, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The service will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel in Desloge, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Travis Quetermous officiating assisted by Bernie Crum. Interment will be held at Forrest Hills Memorial Gardens in Morley at 3:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to the Flat River Church of Christ.
